The strike at Nipissing University in North Bay by the Nipissing University Faculty Association (NUFA) is now in its third week.
On Oct. 30, Anis Farah was in North Bay for a solidarity picket and to present a $2,000 cheque from LUFA in support of NUFA’s stand for a fair and equitable settlement. This past Friday, Jean-Charles Cachon was also in North Bay to present a cheque for $1,000. Other LUFA members have also traveled to North Bay to show solidarity with their NUFA colleagues.
CAUT has shown its support by presenting a $1 million cheque to NUFA from the CAUT Defence Fund, and by bringing in each Friday fly-in pickets from universities across Canada. Support for NUFA has also come from Nipissing students, OCUFA, Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, Ontario Nurses’ Association, North Bay and District Labour Council, and a number of union locals.
Picket lines are at the two entrances to the Nipissing University campus (100 College Drive) in North Bay as well as the Muskoka campus in Bracebridge (125 Wellington Street). The hours of picketing in North Bay are every day from 7:30 am to 5 pm.
LUFA invites its members to show their solidarity with the Nipissing faculty, including through tweets, emails, donations, and picketing.
