Sudbury, Ontario, 13 November 2015

PHM gave a community presentation at N’Swakamok Native Friendship Centre to share the results of the period prevalence study of homelessness conducted January 28th to February 3rd in the City of Greater Sudbury. Presentations were also given by the Homelessness Network, the Out of the Cold Emergency Shelter Program, the Aboriginal Housing Case Management program and the Harm Reduction Home Day Program.

City of Greater Sudbury staff gave a presentation about homelessness to the Community Services Committee. PHM was asked to provide further information about its report Homelessness in Greater Sudbury: 2015 Period Prevalence Count.

PHM presented key findings of the period prevalence count of homelessness in Sudbury to the Community Advisory Committee on Homelessness. The findings of the report Homelessness in Greater Sudbury: 2015 Period Prevalence Count were presented and members of the committee discussed the report.

Cochrane, Ontario, 21 April 2015

PHM gave a presentation at a special meeting of the Town of Cochrane. PHM provided information about the findings of its period prevalence count and community survey to Mayor, council members and interested community members. The Cochrane Homeless Coalition was formed in 2016.

Cochrane, Ontario, 20 February 2015

Poverty, Homelessness and Migration hosted a forum on the extent and nature of homelessness in Cochrane. Research team members Dr. Carol Kauppi, Director of PHM, and Henri Pallard, Associate Director of PHM, presented the findings of the period prevalence count and community study conducted in Cochrane in July, 2013. The community forum took place at the Ininew Native Friendship Centre.

Moosonee, Ontario, 18 February 2015

PHM gave a presentation at the Annual General Meeting and workshops held at Keewaytinook Native Legal Services. PHM provided information about the findings of its period prevalence count and community survey. PHM also presented a poster comparing housing conditions in a James Bay community, Cochrane and Sudbury.

Fort Albany First Nation, 18 February 2015

PHM gave a presentation at Peetabeck Academy to community members, students and staff about the photovoice project that took place in Fort Albany First Nation in 2013. PHM presented a poster comparing housing conditions in a James Bay community, Cochrane and Sudbury and participated in a question and answer session regarding living and housing conditions in communities taking part in the PHM project.

Moosonee, Ontario, 7 March 2013

PHM presented the findings from its period prevalence count and community survey on the nature and extent of homelessness in Moosonee, Ontario, which it conducted in July, 2012. The community forum was held at the Moosonee Native Friendship Centre. Participants who attended the community forum provided feedback on the findings, made recommendations and determined priorities for future action.

Hearst, Ontario, 17 April 2013

PHM conducted a period prevalence count of homeless persons as well as a community survey. The data collection took place in Hearst in the summer of 2013. PHM presented the results on the nature and extent of homelessness at a community forum in Hearst with Lyne Poliquin, Adjointe au vice-rectorat de l’Université de Hearst and Louis Corbeil, community partner. Community members are studying recommendations which will be included in the final report.

Fort Albany First Nation, 4 March 2013

PHM held a community meeting with leaders, community members and elders in Fort Albany. The discussion focused on living and housing conditions. PHM Indigenous Communications Coordinator Mandy Scott also made presentations at Peetabeck Academy to share with the students her experiences of growing up in Fort Albany and Sudbury. Teachers and students agreed to take part in a photovoice study of housing situations in Fort Albany.

North Bay, Ontario, 23 February 2013

A period prevalence count of homeless persons was conducted in North Bay at the end of July 2011. PHM presented the results on the nature and extent of homelessness to the Nipissing District Homelessness Partnership. Community members are studying recommendations which will be included in the final report.

Timmins, Ontario, 25 April 2012

PHM presented the findings from its period prevalence count on the nature and extent of homelessness in Timmins, Ontario, which it conducted during the last week of January 2011. Participants of a community forum provided feedback on the findings, made recommendations and determined priorities for future action. The newly formed Cochrane District Social Planning Council is the local agency overseeing the implementation of the recommendations.
